Newborn & Baby Photoshoots – Temporary Pause
Capturing the precious early days of a baby’s life has always been such a joy, and I’ve loved photographing so many wonderful families. However, I am currently taking a break from newborn sessions while I recover from a back injury.
Newborn photography is a highly detailed and hands-on process, involving a lot of bending, lifting, and careful positioning to ensure baby’s safety and comfort. As newborn safety is always my top priority, I want to give myself the time to fully recover before returning to these sessions.
That said, this does not affect any other areas of my work! I am still very much available for family photography sessions, including studio portraits, outdoor location shoots, and relaxed at-home lifestyle sessions. If you were hoping to capture beautiful moments with your little one, there are still plenty of options available.
I truly appreciate your understanding and support, and I look forward to offering newborn sessions again in the future. In the meantime, feel free to get in touch to book a family, milestone, or lifestyle shoot.
Warm wishes,
Deborah x
“We are so happy with the lovely photos Deborah took of our 2 week baby girl. They are beautiful, Deborah is very talented! Her attention to detail shines through. Deborah was so patient and careful with our little girl to make sure she was happy and comfortable. We would definitely recommend, particularly for newborn photos.”
“We recently had a newborn shoot with Deborah and we honestly could not praise her enough. She was so good with our daughter, had some amazing ideas for creative and artistic shots but also listened to what we wanted. The studio has a very relaxed feel and Deborah went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, offering us cups of tea and allowing time for changes/ feeds between shots. The end gallery was just wonderful. The photos were better than we had ever expected! Simply stunning. Thank you again Deborah for being so lovely, patient and professional!””

FAQs
How much does a baby photoshoot cost?
Photographers carefully work out prices in order to offer the best value while making their business work. We have studio, equipment, prop and laundry costs to cover, and then there is time is spent on preparation, during the shoot, editing, processing and administration, which when added up can take up to two full days ... Phew! ... for just one shoot! We do all this because we love our work, but we also have to pay the bills. Good photographers have spent years training and even longer working, gaining experience and constantly learning new skills and developing artistic talents - this is why people book us! My newborn baby shoots start at £95 and include a beautiful Gift Print. If all the hard work I put into the photo shoot pays off you will feel happy to invest in the beautiful photography that I have created when you see your gallery ... I constantly review products and prices and will send more prices and bundles when you contact me.
How long does a newborn baby photo session last?
Because every baby is different, every session is different. Happy, content babies are wonderful to photograph and when babies drift into a deep sleep I can gently and safely flow them into sleepy little poses. If baby is a light sleeper sessions can take a little longer and could mean that baby is less happy to be posed naked. I take my cues from baby and also from you, the parent.
What happens if my baby won’t sleep?
Some babies are sleepy, some are less so and can be more curious, especially when in new surroundings. If baby is wide awake and happy, I don’t waste these moments and get to work. These early open eyed shots and photographs of them stretching and yawning can be so full of character.
If baby still wide awake after a little kick about and a good feed, I will wrap them. Wrapping helps baby to feel secure and is a lovely way to photograph them regardless if they are awake or asleep.
All babies drift off eventually, if they fall into a deep sleep this is the ideal time to try gentle posing on their side and tummy and without clothes on.
What happens if my baby cries during the session?
All babies cry for a reason, it could be that they are hungry, windy, too hot or too cold, or that they need their nappy changing or simply need a cuddle. If baby is unhappy we have time to work with them and help them to settle.
What is newborn and baby photography?
In the early 1990s photography Anne Geddes took newborn photography out of the hospital and into a new era, sparking a stylised field of photography where a photographer works closely with parents to create beautiful portraits, while keeping the health and welfare of their little subjects at the heart of the shoot. Every photographer has a style, I use natural light and prefer to keep my portraits natural and authentic, working with how the baby is feeling to capture all the tiny little details that make newborns so very special.
How old should a baby be for newborn photos?
The ideal age is between 5 and 14 days. That said, I have photographed babies at 6 weeks and they have slept soundly throughout the session - which just goes to show how each baby is different and why it is best for sessions to be 'baby led'.
Is photography safe for babies?
Baby's safety and comfort is absolutley the top priority during one of my newborn and baby shoots. The sessions are baby led, meaning there is plenty of time for feeding, soothing and making a baby comfortable. I only use natural posing and work gently with baby's movments. If a baby is unsettled then there will be a reason why, if baby is having an unusually fussy day, or can not be soothed I will offer a second date, nothing is more important than newborn baby's safety.
What if my baby is poorly?
If you, your baby or anyone else taking part in the shoot is unwell, I will offer a second date. It simply makes no sense to try and push ahead if there are any concerns whatsoever.
Are you offering newborn shoots during the pandemic and what precautions do you take?
My newborn shoots only go ahead with the strictest of Covid precautions. The main differences being that newborn shoots only take place a minumum of 48 hours after any previous clients; I wear a mask and do not directly handle baby, instead I am guiding parents through a simple 'comfort wrap' and how to gently and naturally position baby. Parents love this, as they often find that this simple wrap can also help to sooth the baby at home.
Do you photograph newborn babies at home?
Yes! I offer 'Welcome Home Baby' sessions. These are booked within a similar time frame - from 5 days onwards. Welcome Home sessions are less stylized, having more of a lifestyle and documentary feel, which some parents prefer. Session fees are £350 for up to 2.5 hours of photography and a selection of 40+ high resolution, licensed, digital images for you to print save and share as often as you like.
