FAQ’s

Do you do photo shoots on location?

Absolutely! Family portraits, lifestyle shoots, weddings and events can all be catered for! My studio is a wonderfully calm place for single and smaller group portraits where you might require a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, with the benefit of beautiful studio lighting, but I’m equally at home in most locations using my fully mobile ‘speed lights’ or natural lighting for more of a lifestyle look.

I need some portraits for my website. Can you help?

Yes! I have supplied several high profile companies throughout the country with professional business portraiture and headshots. You can either visit me at my studio in Ilminster or I can travel to you with my pop-up studio.

I see you have a studio in Ilminster, can I call in to book a shoot?

My sessions are by appointment. I’m happy for you to pop  in if your passing, but if I’m with a client I may be unavailable. I also work on location for private and commercial clients, so if you need to get in touch please drop me an email to schedule a meeting.

When are you available for a photographic session?

Typically I book sessions Monday to Saturday 9am - 5.30pm. Other times are available, please ask.

Where are you based?

My studio is in Ilminster, Somerset. I’m just off the A303 and about 8 miles from Junction 25 on the M5. Parking in Ilminster is never a problem with street parking for up to 1 hour outside the studio, and plenty of pay and display car parking nearby.

What if my child or family are ill? Can I move my appointment?

Yes of course. If you or your child are ill just call and I will find a new date for your session. There is no point in struggling through a session if you are feeling unwell. I want you and your child to feel your best so I can get a beautiful set of images for you.

What if I want to order more images after my first viewing?

I back up and store all my digital images. Images are available at the usual prices for up to 6 months after your session, after which I charge an archiving fee of £25 for retrieving images from back up.

I would like a family portrait taken. Can you accommodate this?

My studio is ideally suited to single or small group portraiture. I can accommodate small family groups too. If you require a large family group session I’m happy to discuss other locations where your session can take place.

Are you insured?

I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

Can I book a session as a gift to someone else?

This is a very popular method. I offer gift vouchers for you to personalise and give to a friend, family member or loved one.

When do I pay for my shoot?

Studio sessions are payable when you book your photographic session. This secures your date and time in the diary. This fee is non refundable but fully transferable to another date if at least seven days notice is given (excluding sickness). Dates are unable to be secured until payment has been received. Prints and other products are payable at the time of ordering.

Who owns the copyright of the images?

Under the copyright and patents act of 1988, Deborah Johnson Photography retains the copyright of all images taken. It is a criminal offence to copy, screen grab, scan or reproduce photographs without written consent by Deborah.  If you purchase digital files, you are granted a licence to use your images for personal use. Your purchased files can then be used for sharing with your friends and family on social media sites (watermarked copies will be provided for this purpose), for updating model or acting portfolios and printing out for yourself, family and friends. These images are not to be sold or given to any third parties without prior consent by Deborah.   Images that are purchased as digital files are not to be altered in any way that change the integrity of the image without prior consent.

Images taken in photographic sessions may be used by Deborah Johnson Photography for display or marketing purposes. This could include social media, marketing literature, or galleries on this website. This is for the purpose of promoting my photography so clients can see the style of work I create. If you would prefer your child’s images are not to be displayed in this way please let me know in writing when you book your photographic session.

By booking a photographic session at Deborah Johnson Photography you are agreeing to all the above terms and conditions and I thank you for your respect.

What methods of payment do you accept?

At the moment I accept cheque, cash and payment by bank transfer.

When do newborn sessions take place?

Newborn sessions are scheduled before baby reaches 10 days new. This is done for many reasons. Newborns this young are more likely to “curl up” and remain sleepy for the duration of the session. They are much more tolerant of being posed and moved around than a 3 or 4 week old. Almost all of the “sleepy newborn” shots you see here on the website were done with newborns 14 days old or younger. If your baby is older than 2 weeks, don’t worry, we can still capture beautiful photos - it may take a little more patience and expect less sleepy shots and more of your baby's expressions and character.

Can you Photoshop images to remove scratches, bruises and skin blemishes?

All purchased images are lightly retouched, and for portrait sessions this can include removing skin blemishes and scratches. I also offer more extensive retouching services, please ask for details.

VIEWING AND ORDERING APPOINTMENTS

How long after the shoot will we see the images?

I like to invite you back to the studio one to two weeks after your shoot to see your pictures. At your ordering session, you will see a selection of the best images from your photoshoot, which I will have  colour-corrected, cropped, and lightly retouched ready to show you.

Why are viewings at the studio?

At the studio my large screen is colour calibrated, therefore, you will be able to see the images exactly as they will look as your final product. I also have software to help make your decisions.

Can friends and family order photos after viewing?

Once you have placed an order I can provide a private link on my website for friends and family to see your pictures.  The images will be live for 48 hours.

Is there any obligation to buy anything after the shoot?

There is absolutely no pressure to make a purchase, however, I think you’ll find it hard not to choose from your beautiful selection.
